Sphagnum Moss
![]()
Sphagnum moss, also known as peat moss (Sphagnum Moss), is a plant belonging to the Sphagnaceae family, with around 150 species found worldwide. As its name suggests, it grows in moist environments such as near water. Sphagnum moss has a unique structure, consisting only of stems and leaves. Its surface is covered with numerous pores, allowing it to store a large amount of water internally.
With excellent water retention and superior drainage (aeration), sphagnum moss is softer than soil, so it won’t damage plant roots. Additionally, it has outstanding ion-exchange capabilities, converting cations such as potassium and calcium into hydrogen ions, thereby helping regulate the pH near the roots. For these reasons, it is commonly used in orchid cultivation. In recent years, it has also become a popular growing medium for succulents and ornamental plants.

We primarily sell sphagnum moss grown in China. Due to its subtropical climate, China offers warm and humid conditions that are ideal for cultivating sphagnum moss. Chinese-grown moss features intact fibers and excellent quality, making it especially suitable as a growing medium for orchids and ornamental plants.
In addition, our sphagnum moss is completely free from pesticides and chemical agents, making it safe for use with reptiles, insects, and terrariums. You can use it with confidence.
